Ames Plaza, circa the 1960s.(Ken Keeley Collection)

Ames Plaza, circa the 1960s. The first anchor-store was Barker’s. On the right is Big G, one of the first bulk-item grocery stores. On the left side of Barker’s was Barker’s Automotive. Today, the Barker’s location is Backus Health Center. At one time there was a movie theater between the two big stores.

Ken Keeley is the author of 12 pictorial books of Norwich. His newest book is “FourScore & Fifty — New London 1850-1980.” To purchase any of his books he can be reached via e-mail at kenekjr000@comcast.net.
