Ames Plaza, circa the 1960s. The first anchor-store was Barker’s. On the right is Big G, one of the first bulk-item grocery stores. On the left side of Barker’s was Barker’s Automotive. Today, the Barker’s location is Backus Health Center. At one time there was a movie theater between the two big stores.
