Have you looked at an object in a building or in a relative’s home and wondered if it had any intrinsic value? On Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m., Mallory Mortillaro will share her story via Zoom on how a part-time art cataloging project turned into the discovery of Auguste Rodin’s 1910 marble sculpture of Napoleon. The sculpture had been displayed in a New Jersey Town Hall for nearly 80 years.

While cataloging the artwork housed inside the Hartley Dodge Memorial in Madison, N.J., Mallory uncovered a masterpiece that had been lost to the art world since the 1930s. After a year of research, the piece was authenticated as an official work by Auguste Rodin, and became one of the biggest art finds in recent history.

Mortillaro serves as the Curator of Collections for the Hartley Dodge Foundation, Madison, N.J., and holds a B.A. and M.A.T. from Drew University. You may contact her at mallorymortillaro@gmail.com.
