On Saturday, Nov. 20, the Lions Club of Salem delivered 50 turkeys and a $175 donation to Care and Share of East Lyme.

The club was able to make this donation through a partial grant from the Lions Club International Fund, which was obtained by Mary Krogh (East Hampton Lions Club president). This enabled the Salem club to buy 50 turkeys, at a reduced price. The frozen turkeys had to be picked up on Wednesday, Nov. 17. The Congregational Church of Salem stepped up and donated space in their walk-in freezer for four days. This allowed the turkeys to stay frozen until Saturday morning.

A big thank you to Pastor Jonathan for helping move the turkeys into and out of their freezer.

On Saturday, Nov. 20, the Lions Club of Salem crew, Steve Wlodarczyk and Hugh McKenney, delivered the 50 turkeys and check to the Care and Share staff in Niantic.

The Lions Club of Salem has many events to raise monies for such efforts as the one above, as well as supporting Salem, statewide and national projects. The motto of the Lions Club is: “We Serve.”
