Ledyard mayor to chair Council of Governments for second term

Ledyard Mayor Fred Allyn III was reelected Wednesday to a second term as chairman of the Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments.

"I’m honored to serve the COG once again as Chairman," he said in a statement. "The COG has been one of the shining stars in gaining traction on regionalized services. In some cases, these regional efforts have been the leading edge in the State of CT. The 22 member towns, Tribal representatives and military leaders work tremendously well together and I expect more of the same going into 2022."

The Council of Governments approved a slate of Executive Committee candidates for 2021-22 at its hybrid meeting Wednesday held at Flanders Fish Market in East Lyme and also via Zoom.

In addition to Allyn, the slate includes Stonington First Selectman Danielle Chesebrough as vice chairman; Waterford First Selectman Rob Brule as treasurer; Sprague First Selectman Cheryl Blanchard as secretary; and Norwich City Manager John Salomone and Groton City Mayor Keith Hedrick as representatives-at-large.
