Norwich Sea Unicorns announce 2022 schedule, ticket sales

Norwich — Local baseball fans have a stocking-stuffer option that was unavailable last Christmas: Norwich Sea Unicorns tickets at the Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium.

Last Christmas, the team and city were reeling from losing their affiliation with the Major League Detroit Tigers and spent the next several months trying to land either a new minor league affiliation or a new identity. The team joined the summer collegiate Futures Collegiate Baseball League in early May, just a few weeks before the start of the 2021 season.

The Sea Unicorns, in conjunction with the Futures League, unveiled the 2022 schedule this week. The Sea Unicorns will start the season on Thursday, May 26 in New Britain in a game against the New Britain Bees.

Opening Night at Dodd Stadium will be Monday, May 30, Memorial Day, when the Sea Unicorns host New Britain for the second of 13 scheduled meetings between the in-state rivals. The home opener will begin at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks will follow the game.

The 2022 schedule features a total of 64 games: 32 at Dodd Stadium and 32 on the road. The home schedule features two home games on Mondays, four on Tuesdays, four on Wednesdays, five on Thursdays, six on Fridays (with fireworks each Friday), five on Saturdays and six on Sundays.

Games will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 4 p.m. on Sundays. There will be two exceptions to these times as the Sea Unicorns will host Camp Day on Wednesday, July 13, and a Business Special on Wednesday, Aug. 3, with both games starting at 11 a.m.

There will be eight post-game fireworks shows in 2022. In addition to Opening Night, all six Friday night home dates and Monday, July 4, will feature fireworks shows. Further details regarding the 2022 promotional schedule will be released over the coming weeks.

Norwich Sea Unicorns season ticket memberships to The Captain’s Club are on sale. Premium seats are $360 and reserved seats are $285, and both come with several benefits. Mini plans are also on sale with three different packages available for the 2022 season. The Create Your Own Mini Plans return with the premium seats available for $100 and the reserved seats available for $90. Both packages come with 10 open-dated vouchers to be used for any games.

The Fireworks Package for $90 will feature a ticket to all eight post-game fireworks dates as well as two bonus games. New this year is a “Sea-nior” Unicorns package which will feature eight games, including all four Tuesday games, for $85. All mini plans come with free parking.

The Norwich Sea Unicorns front office and box office are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and can be accessed in person or by calling (860) 887-7962. Sea Unicorns merchandise is available anytime by visiting goseaunicorns.com.

The eight-team league, founded in 2011, includes the New Britain Bees of New Britain, former New York-Penn League rival Vermont Lake Monsters of Burlington, Vt.; Brockton Rox of Brockton, Mass.; Nashua Silver Knights of Nashua, N.H.; Pittsfield Suns of Pittsfield, Mass.; Westfield Starfires of Westfield, Mass., and Worcester Bravehearts of Worcester, Mass.
