Waterford — The craftsmen at the Waterford Historical Society's Ralph Madara Blacksmith Shop held an informal open house Wednesday, welcoming members of the community to see them at work.

Charlie Sedell, who teaches the metalworking skills in the shop, got his start there as a youth learning from the shop's namesake. Today he has his own home workshop, but can be found on Wednesdays and Saturdays teaching the skills to anyone interested.

The Cacace and Rodriguez families, including six boys aged from 4 to 9 years, were lured out by a Facebook post from the historical society.

The smiths took turns showing visitors the various tools and skills involved in the blacksmith work.
