Donated medical supplies off to Ukraine
Groton — Volunteers were preparing to drive donated supplies, collected in a humanitarian aid initiative for Ukraine, to Stamford from Command Technology on Wednesday.
The Groton, Stonington and North Stonington Republican town committees came together to collect donations of medical supplies and other necessities to aid Ukranian refugees. All donations will be brought to the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Stamford, which is prioritizing medical supplies that will soon be rushed to Ukraine on a charted cargo plane. The group started collecting donations at The Fisherman Restaurant on March 13 and has filled over 12 truckloads of community donations.
"We were just so overwhelmed with how much people wanted to help," said Robert Boris of Groton, who is running for the 41st House District seat. "We had hand-knitted hats, used wheelchairs, it was just incredible."
While the donation drive is officially over, all interested in assisting may contact Command Technology at (860) 772-0099.
