Norwich — The Greek flag will be raised at noon Friday outside Norwich City Hall to recognize Greek Independence Day as part of the Global City Norwich effort to recognize as many of the different demographic groups represented in the city as possible.

The flagraising and accompanying ceremony will be held using a temporary flagpole on the sidewalk adjacent to the David Ruggles Courtyard in front of City Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Global City Norwich, funded by the Chelsea Groton Bank Foundation, hosts numerous international festivals and ceremonies recognizing ethnic groups and nationalities. The Greek flagraising is the second such ceremony thus far this year, following a Dominican Republic flagraising Feb. 26.
