    Seal released after being rescued by Mystic Aquarium

    Charlestown, R.I. — People gathered Tuesday at Blue Shutters Beach to watch the release of a male gray seal weanling, approximately 3 months old, after it was rescued and rehabilitated by the Mystic Aquarium Animal Rescue Program.

    The gray seal, at approximately 8 weeks old, was rescued at Misquamicut Beach in Westerly on Feb. 15 and was found minimally responsive and very thin, weighing under 30 pounds. 

    The seal was treated for an infection and dehydration and now weighs over 60 pounds.
