State police: Teens in stolen cars try to elude capture in Griswold

Griswold — State police said a pair of alleged car thieves were arrested Wednesday night, but not before one of them rammed a cruiser and attempted to steal another car.

Sahvon Anthony Valentine, 18, of Plainville was charged with reckless driving, failure to drive in the proper lane, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree larceny, criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer and second-degree assault.

State police on social media said Valentine was driving a Hyundai Accent reported stolen from a gas station in Jewett City when he was spotted by troopers on Howe Road in Griswold. He was with a driver in a Volkswagen that police identified as stolen out of Massachusetts.

Jordan Leo Tromley, 18, of Hartford was charged with second-degree larceny.

State police said the two men drove off on Route 12, where troopers were set up at the intersection of North Main Street and Main Street with tire deflation devices. Both cars ran over the devices before continuing south on Route 12 in the wrong lane.

Troopers attempted to box in both vehicles, with lights and sirens engaged, when Valentine turned to enter the Target parking lot in Lisbon, according to state police. They said Valentine intentionally rammed a cruiser when troopers attempted to block the Hyundai from exiting the parking lot. The state trooper in the cruiser was not injured.

Valentine exited the parking lot and continued south on Route 12 before coming to a stop a short time later with flat tires, state police said.

"The operator immediately exited the vehicle and attempted to carjack another vehicle as troopers arrived on scene," state police said. He was placed under arrest and held on a $100,000 bond.

The other driver was located with flat tires on Interstate 395 in Griswold and also was taken into custody, according to state police. Tromley was held on a $25,000.

Both men are scheduled to appear April 14 in Norwich Superior Court.
