Stonington affordable housing hearing to be broadcast live Tuesday

Stonington — On Tuesday at 7 p.m., Southeastern Connecticut Television will broadcast live the Planning and Zoning Commission's public hearing on the town's proposed affordable housing plan on its Government/Education Access Channel, 96 on Comcast and 670 on Breezeline (formerly Atlantic Broadband).

In addition, the hearing will be recorded and broadcast later for viewing on cable and YouTube as it does with all Planning and Zoning Commission hearings.

Among the recommendations in the proposed affordable housing plan are requiring developers to make 10% to 20% of residential units in projects affordable, offering tax abatements, creating an affordable housing trust fund and allowing increased density of multifamily units in residential zones.

After the hearing, the commission could make changes to the plan before voting to adopt it. Adoption of the plan does not mean the recommendations are in effect. That would take additional approvals and hearings by the commission to alter the zoning regulations or by selectmen and residents to approve proposals such as tax districts and abatements.
