Seniors Emy Sandhu and Katelynn Reed, members of the Stonington High School Unified program for students with and without intellectual disabilities, had the idea since they were in eighth grade that they wanted to have a Unified, sensory-friendly prom.

The school was supposed to have its first Unified prom in the girls' sophomore year, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their first prom will now be held May 21. They have invited other Unified programs and sports clubs from Westerly High School and seven other local high schools to attend the prom.

Tuesday, the high school's Unified program held a Prom Wear Sale in the gymnasium, offering a selection of dresses, shoes, jewelry and a few men's suits and ties.

None of the items available during the sale had price tags. Donations were accepted, and those that could not pay were given a free outfit. The program is already accepting donations for next year. People who want to donate can contact Unified coordinator Laura Dow at the high school.
