Germany surrenders on May 8, 1945, and the citizens of Norwich celebrate the news in Franklin Square. On top of the monument, on the left, is written “3543 FROM NORWICH in Service” on this day. Note the simple roundabout surrounding the monument. In the background is Stella’s Lunch. Written on the top right glass window is “BILLIARDS” aka the pool hall.

Ken Keeley is the author of 13 pictorial books of Norwich history, containing over 3,000 photographs. To purchase any of his books, including his newest one, “Norwich, Our Glorious Past,” he can be reached via Facebook or e-mail at: kenekjr000@comcast.net.
