Friends & Neighbors: Mystic’s Tate Scherer accepts Coast Guard Academy nomination
The United States Coast Guard Academy has announced Mystic’s Tate Scherer has accepted an appointment to attend the Coast Guard Academy and will be sworn in as a member of the Class of 2026 on June 27.
Scherer, a Fitch High School senior, is the son of Kristen and Mark Scherer of Mystic and the grandson of Barbara and James Wells of East Lyme.
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London educates future Coast Guard officers. Admission to the Coast Guard Academy is highly competitive and fewer than 400 appointments are offered annually from a pool of over 2,000 applicants.
