On June 2, St. Anthony Chapel Foundation President Roberta J. Vincent presented Marjae V. Beasley, NFA’s graduating Class of 2022, with a check for $2,500, with grant funds received from The Edward and Mary Lord Foundation.

Marjae received the scholarship based on her 4.1589 GPA amongst 521 students, and letters of recommendation from english teacher Jeff Joyce and math teacher Brian Martin.

Her required Comparison and Contrast essay was titled “Medicine in Connecticut vs. Medicine in Cape Verde.”

Marjae was accepted to Quinnipiac University’s Bachelor of Science in the College of Arts and Sciences as a behavioral neuroscience major and was selected to join their prestigious Honor’s Program.

As one of Connecticut’s Future Leaders and to celebrate her achievements, she received a Certificate of Recognition from Secretary of the State Denise W. Merrill, presented by board member Alfred H. Gonsalves.

Marjae also received a Success Musical Snow Globe, which softly plays “The Impossible Dream.”

With a mother’s enduring love, Valerie Plair shared Marjae’s incredible story starting as “a very premature baby” at only 6 months gestational age. Mom also lauded her daughter’s perseverance and determination “to thrive into a beautiful, intelligent and courageous young lady.”

Currently as a part of the National Honors Society, Spanish National Honors Society, Student Advisory Board and holding the leadership position of Project Outreach Community Service Coordinator at Norwich Free Academy, Marjae has a lot to offer Quinnipiac University as a well-rounded student. She highly enjoyed mentoring elementary school students at Mahan Elementary School, as well as gifting handmade birthday cards to the elderly at the Rose City Senior Center.

Her charitable nature encompasses a compassion for a wide age range of community members. Marjae’s mother, dad Marvin Beasley, and sister Anjali are so proud of her.

“Being in all AP and UConn ECE classes ... I know she will be an asset to any community she’s a part of,” said mom. “As her parents, we watched her excel in her academics while flourishing into a gorgeous flower. Marjae taught herself how to play multiple instruments including guitar, ukulele, violin and enjoys singing as well. She overcame a speech impediment that she had since birth, with American Sign Language being her first language. We know she has the tenacity to succeed embedded in her personality.”

St. Anthony’s Chapel Foundation has been awarding a scholarship to an NFA graduating senior since 2012. The scholarship recipients become part of the family, and each year the foundation contacts them to send updated information to The Edward and Mary Lord Foundation titled: “Where Are They Now?”
