Norwich residents asked for input on ARP spending proposals

Norwich — Residents will have a chance to comment Wednesday on proposals by the city to use more than $1.7 million in the city’s federal American Rescue Plan Act grant to fund several city positions and two capital improvement projects.

The City Council will host an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Rose City Senior Center. Aldermen on June 6 removed the items from an overall ARP spending budget to allow another chance for public comment.

The items include $1.3 million to fund several employee positions: a records clerk, three police officers, a zoning and blight enforcement official, fire inspector, auto equipment mechanic and an 18-month human services manager position to handle COVID-19 recovery.

In addition, residents can comment on plans to use $150,000 in ARP funds to widen sidewalks and create public gathering spaces on lower Broadway, $50,000 for a study by the Yale Design Group for lower Broadway improvements and $195,000 for new LED lights and parking lot improvements at the Armstrong tennis courts, 76 Mohegan Road.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
