Mystic author to sign books at Bank Square Books

Branson introduces “Pirates of New Earth” series Sept. 17

Mystic resident Sarah Branson will host a weekend book signing for her first two novels in the Pirates of New Earth series, “A Merry Life” and “Navigating the Storm,” at Bank Square Books on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The 1-3 p.m. book signing will give readers a chance to meet Branson and purchase her first two books in the series, the second which was released in late July. The event, which will be held at 53 W Main St., is free and open to the public.

“I’m honored to introduce my first two novels at such a widely loved store in the Downtown Mystic community,” Branson said. “Similar to the protagonist in the Pirates of New Earth series, Kat Wallace, Bank Square Books also distinguishes itself as ‘fiercely independent.’ This is a quality I’ve always held a deep admiration for.”

The Pirates of New Earth series takes readers to the 24th century New Earth, where new nations have arisen to replace those that died with Old Earth, which was plagued by floods, fires and pandemics that changed the planet and decimated its human population. While a sense of optimism and opportunity exists for humankind, the poor and weak still struggle to exist, subjected to the whims of the rich and strong.

Branson has lived in Mystic for three years, working as a certified nurse-midwife until her recent retirement to write full time. While the new author has only recently begun to write full-time, she has been conjuring stories of pirates since the age of 7 when her family hopped a freighter to Australia.

The Pirates of New Earth series is published by Sooner Started Press. The second book in the series, “Navigating the Storm,” was published in July and the third book in the series, “Burn the Ship,” is due out in October.
