New London ― Starting Monday, a new parking app will give motorists an additional method of contactless payment for the city’s surface lots and on-street spaces.

The Flowbird mobile app will allow consumers to pay from anywhere, find the best available parking spot, get a notification about parking time expiring and extend their parking time.

“The addition of this convenient payment option is an effort to improve the experience of visiting our shops, restaurants, and other businesses around the city,” said Carey E. Redd, II, director of transportation, transit and parking, in a news release from the New London Parking Authority.

The Flowbird app is charging New London customers a convenience fee of 25 cents per transaction.

Other methods of payment will continue to be available at kiosks in the lots, such as by credit or debit card or with quarters and dollar coins. Flowbird is serviced by the same provider that services the city’s parking kiosks.
