Westerly ― Richard Wolak, 78, of Westerly, said Friday he often walks past the Washington Trust Community Skating Center.

So when he was passing by the rink as it was opening for the afternoon, he thought “why not”? and took to the ice.

Wolak mentioned that he hadn’t skated in about 20 years, when his son played hockey in high school.
