    Oyster farms in Groton, Stonington receive grants

    Sixpenny Oyster Farm in Groton and Harmony Sea Farm in Stonington have been awarded grants from the state Department of Agriculture.

    “Sixpenny Oyster Farm in Groton will receive $20,000 that will go toward supplies for additional floating bags and bottom cages,” according to a news release from state Rep. Aundré Bumgardner, D-Groton. “Harmony Sea Farm in Stonington was awarded $9,600 for an oyster seed sorter, work platform, oyster bags, clips, and floats.”

    "I'm ecstatic that the state is recognizing Sixpenny Oyster Farm and Harmony Sea Farm for their hard work,“ Bumgardner said in a statement. ”Both companies offer amazing food and are integral parts of the community. This funding should help those companies progress in the right direction.“

    Overall, $549,649 in Farm Transition Grants were awarded across the state, according to the release.
