Groton seeks comments on proposed bikeway plans

Groton ― The Town of Groton has announced it is eligible to receive funding to create an east/west bikeway connecting the city to the town from Thomas Road, South Road, Route 1 and Depot Road and is seeking public comments on the proposed plans.

“Conceptual plans developed by (engineering consultant) VHB would create on-road bike lanes along many segments of the bikeway,” according to a news release from the town. “Bike lanes designate a portion of the road for bicyclist and are much safer than current roadway conditions along these roads.”

The town will receive a $936,000 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant, provided that it meets the 20% funding match, according to the town. The state Department of Transportation administers the Transportation Alternatives Program on behalf of the Federal Highway Administration.

A link to the conceptual plans is available at: https://www.groton-ct.gov/dept_news_detail_T23_R500.php

People can provide input either in person at the Town Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. April 4 at the Town Hall Annex or by emailing council@groton-ct.gov.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
