    Groton ― Alize Allen, visiting from Buffalo, N.Y., waved and took photos of the USS Indiana (SSN 789) from the rocks at Eastern Point Beach Thursday as the Virginia-class attack submarine passed through the mouth of the river.

    Allen’s husband is a crew member aboard the Indiana.

    Indiana, which was built at Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding in Newport News, VA, was launched on June 9, 2017. It was christened on April 29, 2017, and commissioned on Sept. 29, 2018, at Port Canaveral, Florida.
