    Lynn Malerba to speak at L+M Auxiliary fundraiser

    New London ― U.S. Treasurer Lynn Malerba, chief of the Mohegan Tribe, will be the guest speaker at a fundraising luncheon later this month at the Norwich Inn and Spa, the Auxiliary of Lawrence + Memorial Hospital announced Monday.

    The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 22.

    Malerba was sworn in as the nation’s 45th treasurer on Sept. 12, 2022, having been appointed June 21, 2022 by President Joe Biden. She is the first Native American named to the office. She became the 18th chief of the Mohegan Tribe in 2020, the first female to hold the lifetime position.

    Before joining tribal government, Malerba had a long career as a registered nurse, ultimately serving as director of cardiology and pulmonary services at L+M.
