Gold Star Bridge shuttle to begin Monday

The state Department of Transportation has announced a temporary, free “Gold Star Bridge Shuttle“ will begin on Monday.

The shuttle will “provide transportation services crossing the Southbound span of the Gold Star Memorial Bridge” and “allow pedestrians and bicyclists to cross the Bridge while the sidewalk is closed for evaluation, testing and repair,” according to a news release. The walkway has been closed since it was damaged due to the April 21 fatal vehicle crash on the the bridge.

The shuttle will run from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, according to the DOT.

“The Gold Star Bridge Shuttle will run on continuous 30-minute loops with stops at Williams Street & Bailey Circle (Southbound), Bridge Street in Groton, 121 Riverview Avenue, and 1 Bailey Circle,” according to the release. “The 20-passenger shuttle bus will display ‘Gold Star Bridge Shuttle’ and can carry two bicycles.“

The temporary ADA-accessible shuttle will not cost passengers anything, but there will not be any transfers.
