Old Lyme Fire Department to celebrate 100th anniversary with Saturday festival

Old Lyme ― The Old Lyme Fire Department will celebrate its 100th anniversary Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.

The festivities will be held on the school campus at 69 Lyme St. The rain date is July 16.

The event features the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit as well as a car show, DJ, food trucks, an adult drink tent and games for kids.

The 9/11 mobile exhibit, which will be escorted into town Friday by members of the Connecticut State Police and fire trucks from seven towns, will arrive as a 83-foot tractor-trailer. It will transform on the school campus into a 1,100-square-foot tribute to those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as those who continue to die of 9/11-related illnesses.

The volunteer department’s first chief was appointed to preside over 70 members on May 15, 1923, according to the department.
