Work to begin Thursday on several East Lyme roads

East Lyme ― The Public Works Department has announced road work will begin Thursday on several local roads.

Crews will be applying a pavement surface treatment on West Society Road, Society Road from the bridge over Interstate 95 to the East Lyme Middle School access road, Riverview Road, Giants Neck Road from Griswold Drive to Route 156 and Roxbury Road, in that order.

Public Works Director Joe Bragaw estimated the project will take about three days. He said the rubberized chip seal is more durable and long-lasting than traditional chip sealing, and can be swept up the same day to minimize the amount of residual stone that lingers on the road.

Crews will start on West Society Road near Harvest Glen on Thursday if weather allows. They’ll finish on Roxbury Road near Route 161.

The work, funded as part of the town’s annual pavement management plan, follows months of maintenance as crews applied patches to roads and repaired catch basins and manholes. Those with questions should contact the department at (860) 691-4118 or publicworks@eltownhall.com.
