Public hearing Tuesday on new Norwich plan of development

Norwich ― Planning officials on Tuesday will hold a public hearing on the draft of the city’s new 10-year plan of conservation and development.

The Commission on the City Plan will hold the hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday in room 335 of City Hall on the nearly 100-page plan, which is divided into five major themes: live, grow, work, play and connect. The draft plan is posted on the Planning and Neighborhood Services Department page on the city website, www.norwichct.org.

City Planner Daniel Daniska said an implementation section will be added, with goals and a process that identifies which agencies or city partners will work on specific plans.

Under each theme, the plan describes broad goals followed by lists of strategies to accomplish the goals. For example, under the “Live” section, the first goal is to support vibrant neighborhoods, nodes and corridors, listing several key locations such as Main Street, Town Street, Central Avenue, West Thames Street and Lafayette Street.

Goals include supporting neighborhood retail and services, enhance public infrastructure and “Manage Parking to Support Commercial Districts and Protect Surrounding Neighborhoods.”
