Shore Line East schedules to change due to construction

Shore Line East weekend and weekday train schedules will change starting Tuesday, due to a construction project, the state Department of Transportation has announced.

The “Amtrak Fitter Interlocking Project” is being initiated to make the train tracks easier to maintain, with less impact on service, according to a news release. The project is slated to wrap up before the end of December.

The DOT said that 14 weekday trains will run between New Haven and New London, and two trains will operate between New Haven and Old Saybrook. Fourteen weekend trains will run between New Haven and New London. More trains will stop in Madison.

Some departure times have been changed, and the schedules are available at: https://shorelineeast.com/schedules/

State DOT Bureau Chief of Public Transportation Benjamin Limmer said in a statement that the DOT requested Amtrak expand the number of trains that honor Shore Line East tickets throughout the project.

“Thanks to Amtrak's partnership, customers can ride certain Amtrak trains with their normal Shore Line East ticket," Limmer said.

Shore Line East multi-ride ticket holders will be able to take some Amtrak trains by using Amtrak’s Ride Reserve program at https://www.amtrak.com/ride-reserve, the release explains. Passengers must reserve a seat on Amtrak’s mobile app or website.

The trains included in the temporary cross-honoring can be found on the press release at https://portal.ct.gov/DOT/CTDOT-Press-Releases/2023/Shore-Line-East-Schedule-Changes-Effective-September-5-2023.

The DOT further announced that the following bus routes will be accepting Shore Line East tickets, except for 10-trip tickets:

    · CTtransit Route 201 in New Haven, Branford, Guilford, and Madison.

    · River Valley Transit Route 641 in Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Clinton, and Madison.

    · River Valley Transit Route 643 in Old Saybrook, East Lyme, Old Lyme, and New London.

The DOT said the schedule after construction will be available in the fall and there will be public hearings.
