DOT cutting trees, vegetation on Route 1 in Stonington

State Department of Transportation crews have begun a tree and vegetation removal project on Route 1 in Stonington, state Rep. Aundré Bumgardner, D-Groton, announced.

Bumgardner said drivers in Stonington can expect delays.

The work will be done weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 13, according to the notice from Bumgardner. Drivers can expect right-lane and shoulder closures on both sides of Route 1 from Masons Island Road to Buzzi Memorials.

Bumgardner also announced temporary lane shifts and ramp closures along Interstate 95 northbound between Exits 91 and 92 this month in Groton, Stonington, and North Stonington.

“The work allow crews to reconstruct the right shoulder,” according to the notice. “Message boards will let drivers know when lane shifts and ramp closures are ahead.”

He said the $38.25 million highway project is expected to be finished in November 2024.
