Former Norwich Democratic alderwoman to run for school board

Norwich ― Former Democratic Alderwoman Ella Myles has been endorsed by the Democratic Town Committee to fill the sixth spot on the ballot to run for Board of Education on Nov. 7.

After one candidate withdrew from the race, the DTC faced the possibility of running without a full slate of six school board candidates. The DTC held a special online meeting Thursday night to endorse Myles for the spot.

Myles, a grant writer for the University of Connecticut, said Monday she felt she had valuable skills and experience in policy writing, grant writing, grant administration and leadership she could bring to the board. Myles served one term on the City Council from 2019 to 2021.

At most, six candidates from one party can be elected to the nine-member school board.
