Preston selectmen reelected; other races undecided

Preston ― The three members of the Board of Selectmen, who were unopposed, were reelected Tuesday, but races for multiple boards and commissions remain undecided and will require recounts.

Democratic First Selectwoman Sandra Allyn-Gauthier, cross-endorsed by the Republican Party, received 759 total votes. Democratic Selectman Jerry Grabarek garnered 455 votes and Republican Selectman Kenneth Zachem received 400 votes.

Town Clerk/Tax Collector Jill Keith, also re-elected unopposed, said Wednesday that races to fill a vacancy on the Board of Education and to seat the full-term Board of Education, Board of Finance and Planning and Zoning Commission all face potential recounts.

Recounts are required if the margin of victory is less than 0.5% or 20 votes.

Town registrars of voters will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the process for the recounts, Keith said.
