Memorial service to be held Saturday for USS Thresher anniversary

Groton ― The U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. Groton Base will host a memorial service on Saturday at 11 a.m. to commemorate the 124th birthday of the Submarine Force and the 61st anniversary of the loss of USS Thresher (SSN 593).

The memorial service will be held at the U.S. Submarine Veterans National Submarine Memorial East on Bridge Street and Thames Street.

Retired Rear Admiral John Padgett of the United States Navy is the guest speaker. There also will be a Tolling of the Bell for the Lost Boats and the USS Thresher crew members lost on April 10, 1963.

The ceremony is open to the public.
