New London County Marine Corps League to pay respects to fallen Fitch graduate

The New London County Marine Corps League's Thames River Detachment #1334 on Saturday will honor its deceased members and pay respects to Marine Lance Corporal William Hart, a Fitch High School graduate and one of the Marines killed in the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing.

The group is scheduled to make its annual pre-Memorial Day visits to the grave sites of deceased members.

The members will meet at 10:45 a.m. at the Job Lot/McDonald's parking lot on Route 12 in Gales Ferry and drive the short distance to Colonel Peter Olsen's grave. They will then go to St. Mary's Cemetery in New London to visit Justin Eldridge's and Jeff Watterson's graves.

Then they will go across the street to Cedar Grove Cemetery to pay respects to Marine Lance Corporal William Hart.

Also, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Marine Bill "Sully" Sullivan will lead a fundraiser for veterans at Stop & Shop at 70 Town Street in Norwich. Marine Corps roses will be given to donors who contribute.
