New London singled out for EV charging station additions

New London ― The city this week became just the second municipality in the state to earn federal recognition for adding dozens of new electric vehicle charging stations across New London.

City officials, including Mayor Michael Passero and Director of Transportation, Parking and Transit Carey Red III were presented on Thursday with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Connecticut Clean Communities Leader Award.

New Haven is the only other Connecticut city to receive the award.

The award, presented by Paul Wessel, director of Clean Transportation Communities of Southern CT, was a result of the city’s work in helping add 45 charging stations with the aid of an Eversource reimbursement program.

Of the stations, 23 were installed by the city and the remainder added by private entities, including Mitchell and Connecticut colleges, auto dealerships and the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut.
