Valedictorian Alina Skrabacz: “In these last few months, the desire to be done with high school, move onto our next chapters and continue our growth was tangible. Several of us have craved today, counting down the days to graduation, feeling stifled by the building and school community that worked so hard to cultivate in us this desire to continue moving forward. That stifled feeling is one of the most telling signs of a quality education and community. We’re seeking what comes next, and ready and waiting for the next chapter of our lives; our growth does not end here.”
Class President Sienna Montanari: “During our time here at New London High School we have all grown and changed with our school, we are both the last class to ever attend the old New London High School and we are the first class to ever graduate from the “new” New London High School. While the old pink classroom walls, the jack hammer in the background of zoom and chilly walks from the main building to STEM remain in our memories, we have outgrown them. We have evolved past it. Getting to this point today was not easy for any of us but I stand here proud to say, we have made it. This place will change you and it is all about what you make it.”
Guest speaker Dr. Lillian James: “The truth is, life is unpredictable. There may be challenging times ahead with social justice rights, politics, climate change and more. We live in a time of instant information and new major world-changing events every day. For example, you all started high school in the middle of a pandemic and now you’re graduating four years later during another pivotal year. I empathize and recognize that it is quite exhausting and feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. Despite how scary all of that may feel, remember how far you have come and the adversity you have already faced. You are sitting here graduating today during the most trying of times. This is a huge accomplishment and you deserve to celebrate it. I encourage you to remember what keeps you motivated during troubling times. That motivation will propel you even further into your future successes.”
