One-car crash shuts down Route 156 in East Lyme
East Lyme ― A portion of West Main Street is closed after a car went into a utility pole in front of Niantic Fire Station 2 Monday afternoon.
Acting Assistant Fire Chief Erik Quinn said the one-car crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. when the vehicle went off the road across the street from the fire station.
He said the road is shut down from North Bride Brook Road to Roxbury Road. He estimated it could remain closed as late as midnight.
Detours are in place on North Bride Brook and Roxbury roads.
He said two people were transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London with minor injuries.
He said representatives from Eversource Energy were coming out to assess the situation with the downed pole.
