Groton ― The Noank Water Department is conducting its annual hydrant flushing program this week between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The water department said customers may experience momentary low pressure and water discoloration due to stirred up dust and debris during the project, which started on Monday and continues through Friday.

The notice says there may be periodic areas of water build-up on or across the road, so people are advised to slow down, drive carefully and follow the traffic control guidance at these locations.

The water department is advising people to schedule clothes washing before 8 a.m. and after 6 p.m. Before washing their clothes, they should check for discoloration and run the water long enough for the water to clear within the household system, about 10-15 minutes.

The water department also advises people to take measures to protect their filter cartridges, as there is expected to be some dust and debris in the system.
