    Local roundup: Schooners remain unbeaten (5-0) with 5-3 win over Ocean State

    Mystic — Alex Stiegler (Yale) pitched a two-hitter through five innings and Shane Kelly (Bryant) was 4-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored as the Mystic Schooners beat the Ocean State Waves on Sunday in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game.

    Stiegler earned the victory and Billy Phillips (Maryland) pitched the final 1.1 innings for the save, keeping the Schooners undefeated at 5-0.

    Mystic scored four runs in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead before Ocean State responded with three in the sixth. Casey Dana (Seton Hall) had three hits for Ocean State (1-3).

    On Saturday, Nolan Kessinger's (UMass) two-out RBI double scored Matthew Toke (Seton Hall) in the top of the seventh inning of the Schooners' 3-2 victory over the Sanford Mainers in Sanford, Maine. Kelly (Bryant) had three hits, including a double, and scored for Mystic and Conor Nolan (Princeton) had a run and an RBI.

    Running

    • Wells Sakmar of Stonington won the 3.5-mile Trails to Recovery race at Bluff Point, finishing in 25 minutes, 11 seconds. He was followed by Tommy Downing of Killingworth (25:39) and Dan Musser of New London (26:29). Kara Guinan of Colchester, fifth overall, was the women's winner in 27:27.

    H.S. track & field

    • Ledyard's Adam Crawford was 17th in the 300 hurdles (41.36) at the New England Championship on Saturday in Saco, Maine. The result was omitted from a list of results on page E3 of Sunday's edition.
