NLL cancels remainder of regular season

The National Lacrosse League announced Wednesday that it is canceling the remainder of the regular season.

The league, which includes the New England Black Wolves, who play their home games at Mohegan Sun Arena, said it is examining "any possible postseason scenarios to return to play when all stakeholders and health officials deem that possible."

"With three weekends left in the regular season and the uncertainty about resumption during that time, we decided it's in the best interests of our players, coaches, staff, partners and fans to remove any uncertainty," NLL commissioner Nick Sakiewicz said in a release on the league's web site.

The Black Wolves, who had qualified for the playoffs the last four seasons, were in first place in the NLL's East Division at 8-3 with a 1.5-game lead over the Georgia Swarm (7-5) when league play was originally suspended on March 12.

The Wolves, under head coach and general manager Glenn Clark, had won four straight games, last beating the Philadelphia Wings 9-7 on March 7.
