    Local roundup: Bacon boys hold off Old Lyme for 13-11 lacrosse win

    Colchester — Bacon Academy nearly surrendered a five-goal halftime lead before holding off Old Lyme for 13-11 win in a non-conference boys' lacrosse game on Monday.

    The unbeaten Bobcats (4-0) led 11-5 at the break before Old Lyme (0-5) outscored Bacon 5-0 in the third to get back into the game.

    Ethan LoVetre had six goals and an assist to lead the Bobcats while Jameson Pirro had two goals and two assists, Gavin Emmons scored twice and Jack Holmes had a goal and two assists.

    Nick Cox had five goals and an assist for the Wildcats while Brendan O'Brien finished with three goals and one assist and Mason Bussmann scored two goals.

    H.S. softball

    • Emily Grant went 3-for-4 and scored two runs as Norwich Tech beat St. Bernard 7-4 in a non-conference game. Autumn Hanks added a triple and Morgan Cook a double for the Warriors (4-1), and Caity Flynn was the winning pitcher. Aubree Nyguard was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI for the Saints (3-1) and Arianna Guinassi was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. 

    H.S. baseball

    • North Branford got the best of Old Lyme 8-4 in the Shoreline Conference. Grady Lacourciere was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for the Wildcats (4-3, 4-3) while Owen Snurkowski and Alex Roth had two hits apiece. 

    H.S. girls' tennis

    • Old Lyme remained unbeaten with a 7-0 win over East Hampton in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats (6-0, 6-0), which won one singles match by forfeit, added singles wins from Abby Sicuranza, Sam Tan and Eliana Morosky and doubles wins from Livie Bass-Fiona Hufford, Aggie Hunt-Beatrice Hunt and Olivia Schaedler-Karissa Huang. 

    H.S. boys' tennis

    • Will Danes had Old Lyme's lone win in a 6-1 loss to East Hampton in the Shorline Conference. Danes won his No. 2 singles match 7-5, 6-1 for the Wildcats (2-2, 2-2).

    H.S. boys' volleyball

    • Putnam outlasted Norwich Tech 3-1. Game scores were 25-18, 21-25, 25-12 and 25-21. Tenzin Semten had four aces, three kills and six digs to lead the Warriors (1-6) while Luis Santiago added three aces, two blocks and four kills and Connor Owen had three assists and five digs.

    College baseball

    • UConn Avery Point won for the ninth time in 10 games with an 11-1 victory over Holyoke Community College. The Pointers (16-7) were led by a pair of NFA graduates as Dominic Morabito went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI and Ryan Deshefy was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs. Javon Hernandez also went 3-for-4 for Avery Point and scored three runs.

    College softball

    • Elise Sokolsky pitched a two-hitter as UConn beat Providence 8-0 in the Big East. Sokolsky (16-4) walked three and struck out five for the Huskies (28-14, 15-3) while Rosie Garcia had two hits and drove in two runs.
