Parade recognized among Veterans Day Regional Sites

Hartford — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Veterans Day Committee has recognized the 2012 Connecticut Veterans Parade as one of the nation's official "Veterans Day Regional Sites" for the third consecutive year.

The annual procession in downtown Hartford is one of the largest veterans' parades in New England. The parade is one of 62 entities in the nation and the only Connecticut recipient of this recognition.

"Connecticut is very honored to be recognized by the Veterans Day National Committee," said Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. "Our troops and their families have sacrificed so much to serve this state and the country. We are deeply appreciative of their service and valor."

The annual parade is attended by 40,000 spectators, with over 150 military and veterans groups, musical groups and nearly 4,000 marchers from dozens of Connecticut towns participating in the day's events. The 13th annual Connecticut Veterans Parade will be on Nov. 4 at 12:30 p.m. near the State Capitol.
