Musician, curator at U.S. Coast Guard Academy receive national awards

New London — Two people at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy recently received national awards.

Chief Musician Megan Sesma, a member of the Coast Guard Band, was selected as the Coast Guard recipient of the 2013 Latina Style Meritorious Service Award. The award recognizes civilian personnel and military members who, through their service, enhance the role of Latinas in the federal workforce.

Rear Adm. Sandra L. Stosz, the academy superintendent, will be the keynote speaker at the event where Sesma will be honored, the 10th Annual National Latina Symposium's Meritorious Military Service Awards Luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 5.

Jennifer Gaudio, curator of the Coast Guard Museum on the academy grounds, was announced as the recipient of the Foundation for Coast Guard History Award. The award recognizes those who make a concerted effort to further public awareness of the history and heritage of the Coast Guard.
