Hartford —  Ten people will be inducted into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame Friday, Nov. 1 at the Legislative Office Building.

This year’s class includes two people from southeastern Connecticut - John “Jack” G. Casey, of Groton, and James M. Mosley, of Waterford. The Hall of Fame recognizes distinguished veterans who have made significant contributions to their communities after leaving military service.

Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman and Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda Schwartz will be joined by leaders of the state’s veterans’ community at the induction ceremony.

A Vietnam veteran who served in the Navy, Casey is the captain of the Connecticut Patriot Guard Riders, an organization which was founded to maintain the dignity of funerals for members of the armed forces, veterans, firefighters and police throughout Connecticut and New England. Casey has spent countless hours documenting the history of World War II veterans and has accompanied WWII veterans to visit their memorial in Washington, D.C. through the American Warrior program. He is also a volunteer driver for the New London Senior Center.

Mosley served 20 years in the Navy, retired as a senior chief hospital corpsman, and then became the first minority business administrator at Electric Boat. In 2011, he wrote the book “Life under the Microscope as an African-American” to chronicle his time in the Navy and Electric Boat. A frequent visitor to schools in New London County, Mosley has shared his experiences with students about military life, submarines, nuclear power, personal growth and success. 

Also being inducted are: George H. Breuler, of Ashler Village, Miguel A. Escalera, Sr., of Clinton, Charles P. Gallagher, of East Haven, Robin L. Montgomery, of Brookfield, Michael A. Thomas, of New Haven and Milford, William F. Vornikahl III, of Westport, Robert J. Young, of Danbury, and a posthumous award to John H. Bannan, formerly of Simsbury.
