Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Jones honored as Service Person of the Month

Ledyard — Information Systems Technician Second Class Christopher Jones was honored as the Service Person of the Month by the Eastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce and Ledyard Lions in Gales Ferry, Thursday, Dec. 5.

The monthly award recognizes service members in southeastern Connecticut for their work and dedication.

“Petty Officer Jones provides some of the best customer service on the waterfront for what we do, badging and security for all of the submarines,” said Chief Electronics Technician Duless Duet, the Naval Submarine Support Center Operations Department leading chief petty officer. “He’s my go-to guy whenever I need something.”

Jones, as the command assistant security manager for NSSC, made sure more than 3,000 personnel had the appropriate access to accomplish various missions. He is known throughout his command as an expert in message traffic and submarine communications, according to the Navy.

As the Caring and Sharing Coordinator for the support center, Jones helps lead a program that collects, sorts and prepares holiday meal packages for service members with families. He is an active member of his church, Mary’s Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus in Mystic.

“This is totally unexpected and a great honor,” Jones said.
