Everybody Knows

This is the kind of movie you have to give yourself over to. Things seem relatively benign at first, as family members gather for a wedding, but then a teenager is kidnapped, and the past bubbles up and secrets unravel. The acting is good all around, but “Everybody Knows” just reminds me how superb an actor Javier Bardem is. He’s soulful and expressive as the owner of a vineyard who clearly still pines for the woman who left him behind. The fact that the woman is played by his real-life wife Penelope Cruz only adds to the fire. “Everybody Knows,” which is directed by Asghar Farhadi, is in Spanish.
