Documentary ‘Brainwashed: Sex-Camera-Power’ screened in Mystic Sunday
The Mystic Film Festival and the Mystic Film Institute are presenting a screening of the documentary “Brainwashed: Sex-Camera-Power” and a Q&A with co-producer Maria Giese at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mystic Luxury Cinemas.
In the movie, independent filmmaker Nina Menkes explores the sexual politics of cinematic shot design. Using clips from hundreds of well-known movies, from “Vertigo” to “Phantom Thread,” Menkes makes the argument that shot design is gendered.
Giese is a film director, producer, and screenwriter, a member of the Directors Guild of America, and an activist for parity for women directors in Hollywood.
Tickets are $15; visit mysticfilmfestival2022.eventive.org/schedule. Mystic Luxury Cinemas is located in Olde Mistick Village, 27 Coogan Blvd, Mystic.
