Nineties platinum R&B act is back on the road

I'm typically not a fan of bands whose names I cannot pronounce.

    1. Lykke Li. (Lick what?!?!)

    2. Sufjan Stevens. No wonder he's so twee and sad! He's tired of people saying "Soof-jan."

    3. !!! — yes, that's an actual band. You're probably familiar from when the disc jockey says, "And that's another number one hit from Exclamation Point Exclamation Point Exclamation Point." Oh, wait, they don't have any hits. (Listen to their song "Slyd," though, which I throw out there because it's kinda catchy and also just to prove they really exist.)

    4. Jodeci. This one is most important in our context because the R&B quartet is back together after several years. Blending old-school soul, gospel and New Jack Swing, Jodeci — I think it's "jod-y-chy" — the group was hugely successful in the '90s with hit albums like "Forever My Lady," "Diary of a Mad Band" and "The Show, the After Party, the Hotel."

At that point, Jodeci — maybe it's "joe-dee-kee" — drifted off the charts and remained dormant until last year. They release a new single, "Nobody Wins," and are reported to be working with industry hotshot Timbaland on a new album. Plus, they're back on the road. Jodeci — wait! it's "joe-di-see" — performs Saturday at the Grand Theater in Foxwoods. Ginuwine appears in support and will tell you at the gig how to pronounce his name.

    Jodeci, 8 p.m. Saturday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; $45, $65; 1-800-200-2882.
