If the best someone can do, when asked to describe 2018, is say, "Well, it was interesting," that assessment is at best lazy. Many folks, including local bands Fleet and The Quins, might have a harsher opinion — perhaps best captured in their defiant "(Expletive) 2018!" concert Saturday in New London's Oasis Pub.

Do not, though, regard this event as an exercise in rage and volume. Both bands are thoughtful, free-flowing acts with musicians who have the chops and creativity to explore and expand on their catchy structures and choruses. Expect to hear plenty of tunes from Fleet's mellowly intriguing "Lighting in a Bottle" album. It came out last summer — see? 2018 wasn't ALL bad.
