R&B greats the Spinners sing Saturday at the Sun

The Spinners (Jordan Strauss, Invision/AP Images)

At a certain point in my life — now, for example — I should just start every bet or story about a music act with two numbers. For example, this would pertain to the Spinners, who play a free show Saturday in the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den, as follows:

    1. 4.

Translation: The Spinners have one original member still in the group (Henrey Fambrough). And four of the original members are dead.

That would get those pesky mortality questions out of the way up front because all of us who are (getting) old are wondering about this stuff as our favorite acts age with us. And once that stuff's out of the way, the reader can be reminded that a) there's an argument to made that the Spinners should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because b) they have a LOT of great hits, including "Working My Way Back to You," "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love," "One of a Kind," "Games People Play," "Rubberband Man," "Cupid," "I'll Be Around" and many more.

The Spinners, 8 p.m. Saturday, Mohegan Sun Wolf Den; free.
