Clarence Spady brings his music to Norwich

Clarence Spady is bringing his inimitable music to the Norwich Arts Center on Jan. 11 for a concert.

Spady sings, plays guitar, writes songs and improvises in his unique style that brings in elements of blues, jazz, funk, Latin and rock.

Spady is coming here on the heels of his well-received 2021 release, “Surrender,” which was a very personal album that reflects his past battles with addiction and his recovery.

Leading up to “Surrender,” Spady had tended to release one album every decade. His first, 1996’s “Nature of the Beast,” earned him a nomination as Best New Blues Artists by the Blues Foundation Blues Music Award.

“Nature of the Beast” contained both originals and covers, but his follow-up, 2008’s “Just Between US,” featured only songs he wrote.

Here’s hoping he pulls from all of those releases when he plays Norwich.

Clarence Spady, 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11, Donald L. Oat Theatre, Norwich Arts Center, 62 Broadway, Norwich; $25 adults, $23 seniors, military, students, and $20 for NAC members; (860) 887-2789, norwicharts.org.
